Triumph is a special baby near and dear to our hearts! He is a Chihuahua Maltese mix who was being given away for free on Craigslist. We were able to get Triumph from the woman, who claimed her dog had been impregnated by the neighbors dog. Triumph is 4lbs and almost 8 months old, however, he is developmentally stunted and acts more like a 5 month old puppy!
Triumph had a really rough start at life, he was born blind, and is missing one eye completely. He was born into a family that didn’t know how to care for his needs and was frustrated by him being different. Upon surrendering him to us the family said ‘our kid hates him and we can’t count the number of times he has been dropped on his head.’ We feel sooo blessed to have come across Triumph and have the opportunity to give him a better life!
Triumph’s Current Prognosis: After taking him to get full body X Rays we now know that he does not have any spinal deformities but rather severe muscle atrophy most likely from being kept in a small environment and not being allowed to develop. He has right cerebral issues due to trauma and infection in the uterus. He is improving every day with the help of the wonderful Dr. All who is doing homeopathic remedies, and doggy chiropractic. He has also seen the amazing Dr. Reed, who believes triumph is not in pain, will live a relatively good quality of life, can partake in lots of ‘normal’ dog activities in his own special way!
After seeing 3 specialist doctors we are still unsure how Triumph will be a year from now. The good news is he is not projected to get worse and he is improving every day! He will never be a normal dog as he is blind (he can see shadows though). He will most likely always be a little clumsy but works every day to learn his environment and navigate better. He needs a family who is willing to work with him and spend time continuing his homeopathic remedies and physical therapy. He is such a loving pup and so sweet – our team member Samantha has been amazing with helping him improve and grow stronger each and every day. We love you Triumph!
